  14. sequences, as performed by Rebeca Mauleā‰¤n-Santana, the author of our January
  15. 1996 cover story, The Heart of Salsa . Almost all of the numerous examples in
  16. the article are here in single-track (type 0) Standard MIDI File format.
  17. Example 6 is in multitrack (type 1) format, since it includes a clave part,
  18. which is mapped to MIDI channel 10. Examples 9 through 18 do not have the
  19. clave sequenced in; the correct clave is indicated at the beginning of each
  20. notated example in the article. All you have to do is sequence it in
  21. yourself; an excellent first step in the process of becoming a fluent salsero
  22. or salsera . Note that most of the examples begin with a bar of silence to
  23. accommodate pickups, and although repeats are indicated in the printed music,
  24. you will have to loop the MIDI files. If you'd like to hear a master at work,
  25. we have audio files of Rebeca playing many of these same passages. --Ernie
